Peer Mentors

Peer Mentors at Enfield Community College

At Enfield Community College, our Peer Mentor Programme plays a key role in helping first year students settle into secondary school life.
Our peer mentors are 5th year students who are selected through an application and interview process. Those chosen demonstrate leadership, empathy, and a willingness to support others. Throughout the year, they receive training and guidance from their Co-ordinator, Ms. Mulcahy, to help them carry out their role with confidence and care.
Peer mentors act as role models and guides for our first years. They help with practical tasks such as finding classrooms, using lockers, and getting used to the daily routines of ECC. They spend time with their assigned groups during tutor periods, and they take part in fun bonding activities across the year. Most importantly, they are a friendly, approachable presence throughout the school who first years can turn to for help, guidance, or support whenever needed.

The programme helps to:

  • Build confidence and independence in first years
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive school community
  • Foster positive connections between year groups
  • Develop leadership and responsibility in our senior students

Meet Our Peer Mentors

Our peer mentors are a team of dedicated, caring, and enthusiastic 5th years who have volunteered to support first years during their transition to secondary school. They are here to make sure that every new student feels welcome, included, and supported from their very first day at ECC.

A message from our Peer Mentors:

“Starting first year can feel like a big step, but we want you to know you’re not alone. We’re here to help you find your way around, answer questions, and support you with anything you might need. If you ever feel unsure or need guidance, just come and talk to us — that’s what we’re here for!”
